Originally based on an old found photograph taken by my father, "Singing?" reimagines the scene through a cropped composition and an altered color palette that transforms the image into something more contemporary and emotionally charged. I have always found the idea of "sonder" fascinating. While the children were photographed singing together in a concert including me (girl in grey sweater) each figure appears completely absorbed in their own inner world, revealing distinct personalities, individual subtle expressions, gestures, and moments of distraction. The work explores the incredible idea between collective experience and individuality, celebrating the wonder, imagination, and emotional complexity presented within each child. They all lead different lives and each are uniquely singular.
